With Colorado leading Texas A&M 26-7 and getting the ball back after a safety with 2 minutes left in the first half, the Texas A&M coach pulled his team off the field and demanded that the game be started with Colorado leading 10-7 after one quarter. The Colorado coach refused, so it is in the hands of the Big XII Commish as to the fate of the game. What will happen? It's up to Jeff

TAM coach:
"Today, there was a terrible travesty. Not in the conduct of the players, fans, or anybody associated with the great people of Colo U. However, in deciding to pull my players fromc thre game, I believe i was justified. Firslty, up 7-3 early on, there was the first in a series of 4 pass interference calls which lead directly to 2 Colorado scores. 3 of the 4 came on 3rd and long situations. The Colorado coaches can testify that after seeing replays, the calls were, "extremely sketchy" and that there is extremely significant "resonable doubt" to weather the calls were merited. All 4 times the ball was overthrown, twice out of bounds (nullifying any PI call), and always there ewere at least 2 defendersc with "equal opportunity" of going forc the ball.
Secondly, with the score 17-7 Colorado in the 2nd, there began more holding disputes. This however, is not a referree's fault, but proabbly a game bug. When the QB goes to pitch the ball, he pitches it backwards, 25 yards in oppositie direction out of his own endzone. Colorado *did* try to bump TAM pitch man, and in this he succeeded, as wecc did npot fare to well running the option. But for this legal defensive play to havecaused the fumbles, he would have had to push the pitch man diagonally backwards for about 10-15 yards-an impossible task.
We play this game under protest that:
a)The 4 PI calls hamper our right to play normal defense, and also unwarrantly penalizes us for no wrongdoings.
b)The "option bug" as we shall call it, is a random computer-generated problem that malproportionately affects me, in thiscase, and with the bug, I cannot be expected to be ablec to fairly compete.
We await the administrations's ruling. We hope for a complete restart, but since the bug didint strike till 2nd quarter, we understand if thje 1st Q (10-7) counts.
Whateverc the administration decides, we will abide by it.

"In all my years of coaching football, I have never seen a situation like this. Today, Texas A&M quit playing football in the middle of the game. I'll be honest and tell you what I saw. The first pass interference call was bad, granted, but that happens all the time. The second pass interference call was sketchy, as my replay's didn't get a good angle. The third and fourth were justified...you can't go hitting WR's before the ball gets there. The officials made those calls and they were the right ones. My WR's were getting bumped even on passes they caught," Colorado's coach said.
"As for the option bug, it is clear to me that the schooling my DE receives from Colorado University is very good. He went straight to the running back, who attempted to block him when the QB turned up. When the QB pitched, my DE had taken the RB off his course and the ball sailed into the endzone. These plays took place inside the 15-yard line. Those pitches go a long way when no one is there to receive them," he added.
"I am disappointed in my colleague's decision to pull his team off the field. Where I come from, we are taught to take our beatings. No matter what comes out of this protest, I promise you this: If we play Texas A&M again in the playoffs, they will not, and I repeat WILL NOT be within a touchdown at the end," he said.
"I hearby declare that this situation is up to the commisioner. But the one choice is obvious to me. Texas A&M pulled their team off the field. The final score should be officially 26-7, as that was the score when he decided he didn't want to play anymore. Actually, since I am a stat guy, that would hurt my offense's PPG. Give me another TD and multiply both by 2...I want a 66-14 official win. He couldn't stop me and he knew it," he said.
Kordell Stewart said, "Those chickens didn't want to take their beating. I hope we see them in the playoffs. We will beat them down even worse so they want to quit again."

add my two cents worth as a fellow owner, competitor, and not to mention, elder statesman.
First of, it is bad form for any opponent to pull the plug on a game especially when they are behind. I have been on both sides of these "whacky" games and for the most part, the second half will balance out the first.
Second, TexA&M and UM are well known for their hard, aggressive defenses. Probably the best coached defenses in this league.
Third, I don't think that any rule changes should be made to this league regarding the play during the game, especially regarding officiating. The challenge of this league is to match wits with your competitor even in the face of adversity. If scenario rules are added, then let's just play the games on paper as some role playing exercise.
Fourth, the game should be continued where it left off, same score, same amount of time remaining. We all need to practice good sportsmanship no matter how upset we are.
These are just my opinions on the subject and I will respect whatever changes or decisions are made. I enjoy this league, the competition, and the people involved. I hope that it's as fun for you as it has been for me. Even though Pitt80 is undefeated, I've taken my licks with Stanford.
