This was a big rematch between the BWC champs and the ECC runner ups. In week 1, Clemson fell behind 7-0, but scored 16 in the 4th to win 16-7.
1ST QUARTER
TAMU got the ball first and was pumped up bigtime. They scored in 2 plays for a 7-0 lead. Clemson wasnt fazed and drove to the TAMU 15. However, 3 incompletes made it 4th and 10. Clemson QB rolled left and lofted a pass right over the head of the LB for a touchdown.
End First: 7-7
2ND QUARTER
TAMU offense was still on fire, it took them longer this time, including a 4th and 1 at the Clemson 35 that they converted with a QB sneak. TAMU scored a few plays later to lead 14-7.
TAMU Defense then came through with the stop they needed, as Clemson went 3 and out and punted. TAMU rolled for a TD in 3 plays, for an incredible 21-7 lead. TAMU had scored just once in their week 1 matchup vs the Tigers, and already they had scored on their first 3 possesions.
Clemson offense stayed calm, and drove for a huge TD to cut the lead to 21-14 with 0:25 left in the 2nd. TAMU attempted a hail mary to get in FG range, but it was INTd to end the quarter.
HALFTIME: TAMU 21, CLEMSON 14
3RD QUARTER
The Tigers came out on a mission, determined to get to the title game, and it looked like they would. Clemson drove down to the TAMU 12. But trhey soon faced 4th and 5 at the 7. They chose to go for it. They lined up in the Shotgun, and when nobody was open, the QB scrambled, and dove, and BARELY converted to the 2 yard line by inches. Clemson scored on the next play, and it was 21-21.
The Aggies got the ball, but on the 3rd play, their short pass was INTd by Clemson's DT, all ogf a sudden Clemson had the ball and could take the lead for the first time, which they did. A 30 yard TD made it 28-21, the Aggies were stunned.
TAMU got ball back and was at the Clemson 20 going into the 4th.
4TH QUARTER
TAMU would score on the 2nd play of the 4th on a 18 yd pass. 28-28. Clemson now got the ball, driving for the Orange Bowl win and Title game berth.
The Tigers turned to the milk-the-clock offense, but they soon faced 4th and 1, which they qb sneaked to convert. Clemson hit 2 huge passes for 1st downs and they had the ball at the TAMU 6 yd line with 1:15 left.
Clemson then made the worst decision of the season. They dropped back in Shotgun, and tried to scramble in for the TD, but the WRs were covered and the running lanes were blocked. The QB then threw a desperation lob to the left endzone, but nobody was there except the TAMU free safety and 2 other defenders. The FS INTERCEPTED THE PASS, TAMU BALL.
1:00 left, Aggies ball, driving for the win.
They faced 3rd and 10, but converted with a 12 yd swing pass. With 0:21 left, a 17 yard pass over the middle put the ball atbthe Clemson 17 yard line with 0:06 left.
34 YARD FG IS WIDE RIGHT. OVERTIME.
OVERTIME
TAMU would get ball first, and drive to the Clemson 22, where they faced 3rd and 5. Clemson blitzed, and TAMU rolled to the right and threw a swing pass to the RB. The CB was out of position to the inside, the RB turned the corner and was home free...TD AGGIES.
TAMU 35, Clemson 28.
Clemson now had ball with 0:45 left. They advanced to the ir own 40, with 1 last play remaining. The QB bought time, waited for his WRs to get downfield, and threw, but it was BATTED DOWN!!! AGGIES WIN!!!!
