Jeff and Calgary were laughing it up as they expected an easy win over BC, especially since Coach John had never before beaten the Stamps with either Edmonton or Saskatchewan.
Early on it was all defense. BC messed up the opening kick and Calgary started at midfield. Calgary drov e the 20 and then threw a dump off to the RB. He was doubled teamed and fumbled through the endzone, giving BC the ball.
BC would drive and score to lead 7-0 in the 2nd. Calgary would get the ball and again drive to BC territory near the 30. However, Flutie then dropped back, and kept going back trying to avoid the pass rush in his face. One of the BC DL stripped Flutie and the other DL recovered. BC would punt, and then Calgary finally scored on a long pass. BC would drive and attempt a chip shot 36 yd FG as time expired but it was wide right. 7-7 at half.
In the 3rd it was BC's turn to have drives end in failure again. BC was INT'd and Calgary moved to the BC 10. A quick screen to the right put the Stamps ahead 14-7, and it appeared that the Calgary defense was just too much for BC.
However, all of a sudden BC's offense exploded. A 35 yd TD tied it at 14. Calgary drove right down the field to the 8 yard line. One first down a run to the right gained 3. On 2nd down, a run left gained only 1. On 3rd and goal at the 4, a run right lost 5 yards, turnover on downs. BC would counter with ANOTHER big drive ending in a 25 yd TD pass, 21-14 LIONS!!!
Calgary would drive to the BC redzone yet again, but again 2 running plays were stuffed, and they attempted a FG and m ade it. 21-17 with 1:15 left and Calgary had 3 timeouts.
BC though was on fire. They converted 2 huge 2nd downs and then a 40 yd TD made it 28-17. Calgary was stopped on downs to end the game.
Key stat: Calgary had 4 drives in the BC redzone end in 0 pts.
