The biggest issues come from other programs hogging system resoucres. The following are the most important tips.
#1 remove Real Player from your computer. It used to be a great program in the mid 90's, now it is the biggest peice of spyware latent crap.
#2 If you have Norton Antivirus disable it before starting netplay.(this may not be the case anymore, but was in past)
#3 Close any programs in the "start tray" next to the clock. Programs which reside in the start tray are constantly keeping their foot in the door so to speak, halfway loaded already, so they start quick when you boot.
Vista Users skip #4 and look to bottom of page
#4(winxp users) You should have these two important programs on your computer, Startup Control Panel www.mlin.net/StartupCPL.shtml
and Startup Monitor www.mlin.net/StartupMonitor.shtml
Startup Control Panel lets you check and uncheck programs you want to have load when you boot. You can easily disable or re-able programs to start at boot.
Startup Monitor tells you when a program registers itself or another program to startup at boot time, and will ask you permission... e.g. "AOL Instant Messenger has registered the program AIM.exe to run at startup, do you want to allow this change" This allows you to deny a program access to startup if it indeed makes that change which typically happens when you install certain programs.

#4 Windows Vista users try this prog (works with XP as well)
This one prog has same functions as startup monitor and startup control panel.
If you have startup monitor and startup control panel installed, it would be wise to uninstall them first! Then download the disablestartup program and install.
