Atlanta (7-0) Hosted the NY Giants (5-2) in the NFC title game. Atlanta took the opening possession, and on the first play, Michael Vick ran for a 70 yard gain to the Giants 10 yard line.
The first 2 drives for each team were intense and left the teams tied at 14. Then the bottom fell out for Atlanta.
On 4th and 5 Atlanta called off the punting team, and chose to go for it. A pass to a wide open Warrick Dunn was dropped. NY Giants scored on a short field. Atlanta's next possession was intercepted by the Giants, and the Giants tacked on 7 more on a short field.
Atlanta's next possession saw Michael Vick try to take the game over with his feet again, and he was knocked into tomorrow. The ball was fumbled 15 yards backwards, and Vick was able to recover, and ran backwards and dove out of a crowd of players chasing the ball. Vick landed on the ball and recovered it, but without getting up, fumbled the ball again, and Jessie Armstead scooped it up and ran it for a touchdown. Vick and the "double fumble" will live forever in infamy, as this sealed Atlanta's fate.
Atlanta's next possession resulted in sacks and a punt, at this point the game was already over. In the final quarter Atlanta managed to hang on to the ball and traded meaningless points with NY.
